Chapter 41 Impossible to Step Out

Past the rusty concrete mixer, from the black and ominous hole blew out the cold wind ceaselessly.

Intermittently, it seemed he was hearing: "Smoke... where's my cigarette? Wait, wait..."

This voice, seems to be asking me for a light from the worker.

I did not stop, quickly I walk to the gate of the construction site.

The roadside was deserted, so quiet it was almost eerie.

The towering skyscrapers opposite were still lit up, like a dividing line between two worlds.

The long shadow of the tree seemed like it would turn into a ghost and pounce on me at any moment. The dark corners on both sides of the gate, again, seemed to be hiding something.

    "Hey, buddy, don't go out."

"There's nothing good outside compared to the inside." Suddenly, the voice became clear, as if it was right next to my ear.

    Sincere, guiding, lamenting.

I stepped out of the construction site gate.

The lights of the skyscrapers became even more blinding.

A white coupe was parked by the side of the road, next to Hei Ying in her trench coat, hands tucked into her pockets, a cold look on her face.

Beside her, there was also a man standing, whose upper half of the face was handsome and dashing, but his lower half had an inverted face, with a dent right in the middle of his chin, which was extremely uncoordinated.

"He hasn't even joined the Huang Si yet, but he's just a new recruit who's going to die. Hei Ying, I've never seen you care so much about someone, which really makes me sad." The man's tone was incredibly complex.

In the next moment, Hei Ying noticed me.

Her cold, graceful face instantly melted like ice, breaking into a smile of surprise!

    "Luo Xian Sheng!"

People followed the sound, and she quickly approached me.

I hadn't stopped at the gate of the construction site, and I walked a few steps forward before stopping when Hei Ying reached me.

She kept glancing up and down at me, her eyebrows and eyes changing from surprise to a hint of resentment.

    "You left without seeing me."

Bitting her lip, she added, "Then, you still left like that?"

"What else can I do?" I replied.

Hei Ying's lips pursed, her eyes more resentful.

In the next moment, she suddenly smiled gently.

It goes without saying that Hei Ying is extremely beautiful, and at this moment, describing her with the phrase "a smile that blooms a hundred charms in spring breeze" would be absolutely appropriate.

"You're not happy." Hei Ying suddenly leaned in closer to me, her hand wrapping around my arm.

Her actions made me suddenly stiffen.

The man beside the road stared at me with eyes that seemed to want to kill, glaring fixedly.

He turned around and walked quickly to the back of the white coupe, where a black SUV was parked.

The engine noise broke the night's quiet. I managed to free my hand.

Hei Ying directly loosened her grip, retreating a half step, not as close as before.

"I don't understand what you're saying, but, you're using me as a shield," I shook my head.

Actually, I understood what you were saying.

She meant that I left Huang Si when I saw a lot of men standing around her, I wasn't happy, so I didn't go to call her.

In fact, I don't agree with her view.

The gesture of her arm around me was just to make that man back off.

    "You are being insincere."

Hei Ying laughed lightly, with an air of confidence.

"I don't like trouble." I furrowed my brow.

"Help your sister solve a little trouble, and I can solve your big trouble, right?" Hei Ying had her hand in her pocket and walked towards the edge of the road.

I hesitated for a moment before following her.

"You've been waiting here for a while. Before that, you must have seen a woman leaving from here? She was in her thirties, with yellow skin."

    I pulled the conversation away.

Hei Ying's eyebrows furrowed slightly as she shook her head and replied, "All the living people here have been persuaded away by relevant departments. The Huang Si has marked this place as a level C ghostly prison. Although ghosts are not too aggressive when there are many people around, once the humans are all moved out, they become restless and will not let any woman walk out."

"You're talking about a ghost, right? Ghosts are not supposed to leave the prison."

    My pupils constricted slightly.

    How is that even possible?!

Hei Ying looked me over again from top to bottom, biting her lip and whispering again, "You managed to leave so quickly and safely, did you only walk by the edge of the abandoned building without going up?"

"You're too impulsive. Such a place is not something we can solve. The Manager Yang took on a burning mountain of trouble, even the people in charge don't want to manage it here."

"Know your limitations and retreat. Go catch Sun Dahai, as he and Sun Zhuo connived against you, they must know a lot of things."

"I will also help you investigate."

    Hei Ying earnestly dissuades me.

I just narrowed my eyes and continued to stare at the gate of the construction site, without saying a word.

I was replaying everything I had seen beforehand in my mind.

"The entrance of the construction site's gate, there is a ghost, a deceased worker. His body is near the gate, not more than fifty meters."

"After entering the abandoned building, the atmosphere is even heavier with a stronger sense of the supernatural. The main ghost is in the room at the end of the 17th floor, a man in his mid-thirties to early forties, wearing a suit."

"The woman I'm talking about gave him paper money to burn, as ghosts can't light incense or burn paper themselves, so she must be a living person!"

"And there's a paper craftsman in your Huang Si, thin as a bamboo stick, with a broad face, right?"

My voice was slightly hoarse, and I finished this speech quickly.

Hei Ying looked at me with even more disbelief.

"You... went up there? How is that even possible?!

"You're talking about Xu Lan, he is indeed a paper craftsman in the Huang Si, but... he entered here two months ago. Is he still alive?!"

"He's dead." I looked deeply into Hei Ying's eyes.

Hei Ying's face suddenly turned pale, and her hand in her pocket clenched the fabric tightly.

"Is... how could a person survive in such a place..."

"But... the woman you mentioned burning paper and burning incense, that's not possible. No one has ever left this abandoned building alive. That woman must still be living in this building, hasn't been possessed by ghosts yet. This place is so haunted, no one can even spend the night here..."

Hei Ying's words were like a bucket of cold water over my head, awakening me from my daze.

If no one has come out, then it's only possible that they are still inside.

The woman's heavy negative energy and the fact that she attracts ghosts isn't an exaggeration.

The woman I saw earlier had even heavier negative energy, with grey mists enveloping her.

However, that doesn't necessarily mean she would attract ghosts.

Because the grey mist was too heavy, it was mixed with the resentment and malevolence of the man in the suit from the 17th floor.

If letting the abandoned building become a ghostly prison is related to the man in the suit, then his aura lingering around the woman naturally prevents ghosts from approaching her!

In that instant, I completed my own analysis!

Looking at the construction site gate again, cold sweat appeared on my forehead.

This means I have to go back?

I hadn't noticed whether the elevator had stopped on any particular floor at that time.

At first, I thought the woman was a ghost, and she left the elevator in a hurry.

There are at least two hundred and multiple apartments on the seventeenth floor and below. Finding a person in such a place would be quite difficult, not to mention the effort required, especially considering the complex nature of the task.

The trouble isn't just the many more ghosts in the abandoned building that I have to face head-on.

And there's the man in the suit. Once he realizes that I've returned, he'll surely come after me right away!

No matter how I pretend, it won't do any good once he starts attacking me.
